carols of the world

From quiet reflections on a moonlit Christmas night to gospel-inspired elation, five choirs will touch your heart with songs of the holidays on Saturday, December 11, 7:30pm at First Congregational Church.  Carols of the World  will feature the Battle Creek Boychoir, Girls Chorus and Community Chorus, joined by the Sojourner Truth Choir and the a cappella group Ars Voce.

Among the many highlights will be the Boychoir's hauntingly beautiful "Walking in the Air" from the beloved British television special The Snowman.  The Girls Chorus will perform a French carol by the composer Gabriel Faure, as well as the light-hearted song, Peace on Earth and lots of Little Crickets, accompanied by marimba and "cricket clickers."

The Community Chorus will make its concert debut under new director Meredith Bowen with an African-flavored version of the Latin Gloria text and other selections.

The five choirs will join forces for such classics as  I Saw Three Ships, and Keith Hampton's True Light, a rousing gospel rendition of This Little Light of Mine

Advance tickets, $16 for adults, and $8 for children and senior citizens, are available at the Music Center at (269) 565-2199 and online.

First Congregational Church is located at 145 Capital Avenue, NE, in Battle Creek.

  Mythbusters

Myth #1. Symphony Concerts are not affordable. In fact, you can get tickets for as low as $7 per ticket!

Myth #2. Symphony Concerts are boring. Symphony music is some of the most exciting and dramatic music ever written. That's why so many movie scores are inspired by symphonic classics.

Myth #3. Concerts are stuffy and long. Our typical concerts are less than two hours and have an upbeat, multi-media approach.

Myth #4. You have to wear a suit and a tie to go to a concert. Come as you like. Some folks like to dress up, others prefer a more casual look. Myth #5. You can only applaud at certain times. We love your applause!
